Mandatory Vaccination: Meningococcal ACWY

All individuals undertaking Hajj or Umrah are required to receive the quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine (ACYW135). This vaccination must be administered at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia and remains valid for a period of five years if a conjugate vaccine is used. Proof of vaccination is necessary for visa issuance and entry into the country.

Additional Recommended Vaccinations

While the meningococcal ACWY vaccine is compulsory, the NHS also recommends considering the following vaccinations to protect against other potential health risks during your pilgrimage:

– Hepatitis A and B – Transmitted through contaminated food and water; vaccination is advised for travellers to regions with intermediate or high prevalence.
– Typhoid – Spread through ingestion of contaminated food or water; vaccination is recommended for those visiting areas where typhoid fever is prevalent.
– Seasonal Influenza – Given the large gatherings during your Hajj and Umrah travel, the flu vaccine is advised to reduce the risk of influenza transmission.

Preparing for Hajj Season 2025

As the Hajj season of 2025 approaches, it is essential to plan your vaccinations well in advance. We recommend scheduling your meningococcal ACWY vaccination at least four to six weeks before your departure date to accommodate any additional vaccinations or health considerations.
